My latest dance performance night “Twisted Tales” was timed perfectly around Halloween and of course required some awesome costumes! I meant to post about these costumes way earlier but it took ages to get the photos of the event back and I couldn’t have a post with no photos. How boring would that be? Now that I have the photos at last you are going to be inundated with these costume posts. I hope you don’t mind. They are a little late to help you with your Halloween costumes now but hopefully you can hang onto them for next year and you’ll be prepared early this time. The premise of the whole show was a mish mash of every children’s story you know all intermingled together. Each well known character had a twist perfect for Halloween. I was cast as Arial the Little Mermaid and the Queen of Hearts. Not sure why I ended up being a red-head the entire time but I was pretty happy with my roles.
So what are the twists you ask? Well the Queen of Hearts was actually a dominatrix with the Mad Hatter as my submissive. Then while I’m in the midst of making my submissives perform for me I get rudely interrupted by the Snow Queen who challenges me to a battle. The challenge with costumes was to portray the Queen of Hearts enough that I was recognizable as that character while also still dressing to the twisted dominatrix characteristics. I think I did a pretty darn good job! I had a very imposing silhouette and I’d say everyone knew who I was meant to be. Here’s how I did it…
Elements of the costume and where you can find them:

Cost: $33.98
I personally didn’t wear the skirt section of the costume because it didn’t sit right with the whole dominatrix theme. It was a little too cute and girly but you aren’t necessarily going for that look so it will probably work well for you.
![Black Shiny Leather Look Leggings](https://stylewithingrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Black-Shiny-Leather-Look-Leggings.jpg)
Cost: $65.29
These are special leggings that grip to the pole, only required if you are actually using this costume for pole dancing. Otherwise here is a cheaper option.
Cost: $11.90

Cost: $12.77
![Queen of Hearts Red Curly Wig](https://stylewithingrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Queen-of-Hearts-Red-Curly-Wig.jpg)
Cost: $34.99
What I Paid: $18.83
I found this exact wig for a lot cheaper but now $34 is the cheapest I can find so shop around.
![White Face Paint](https://stylewithingrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/White-Face-Paint.jpg)
Cost: $1.23
I already had some leftover from previous costumes. I then used red lipstick, eye-shadow and eyeliner to finish off my face.
![Red Heart Riding Crop](https://stylewithingrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Red-Heart-Riding-Crop-682x682.jpg)
Cost: $6.20
What I Paid: $7.32
![Black Patent Thigh High Boots](https://stylewithingrace.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Black-Patent-Thigh-High-Boots.jpg)
Cost: $175
I actually just borrowed these off a friend. Any black boots would do here. They don’t even need to be thigh highs.
Total: $101.07
What I Paid: $138.19
It’s really hard to give you a total because it depends on how much you spend on the black boots and if you already have some white face paint or black leggings to use or if you want to wear leggings at all. The total I supplied above is if you buy everything that I’ve recommended here with the cheaper leggings without the black boots. Keep in mind the prices will vary depending on when you buy this and which items you actually need to buy.
While this was quite an expensive costume all up, I think it was a really effective one! I am so happy with how it came out in the photos! What do you think? What would you change? How good are everyone else costumes too?
This is truly helpful, thanks.
