When I asked Naomi what theme she wanted for her 8th birthday party this year and she very definitely said she wanted a Pusheen Party, I must admit I was not really feeling the inspiration at first. Pusheen felt a little too basic to build an entire party around. It didn’t feel like it naturally dictated enough activities, games, or styling elements.
As I thought about it more, I also had to keep in mind that she wanted to invite boys as well, so I didn’t want the setup to be overly girly. To strike the right balance, I leaned into a gender-neutral colour palette of matcha green and pastel yellow. But the real game-changer was when I decided to pair it with a “Boba & Besties” theme. Suddenly, everything clicked into place! Adding the boba element gave us the perfect anchor for hands-on activities, food, and styling, and in the end, I was so happy with how creative and fun our Pusheen party turned out.
Pusheen Party Invitations
As always, the very first thing on my party planning to-do list was the invitations! I always love creating something custom that really sets the cute theme from the second it hits someone’s hand. Since this was an 8th birthday party for a group of very enthusiastic kids, I wanted the invites to be interactive and playful rather than just a standard flat card.

I ended up designing an interactive boba tea cup invitation where you could pull the straw up to slide out and reveal the party details inside! Everyone was absolutely wowed when they received them. One parent even told me they were the best invitations they had ever seen.

That being said, I definitely spent a lot of time bringing them to life! It was a true labour of love: printing, cutting out all the pieces, laminating them for durability, cutting them all out a second time, and finally assembling every single mechanism together. It’s a very good thing I could just chuck on Chicago Fire in the background while I powered through the crafting marathon!

If you’d like to recreate a similar look for your own cat or boba-themed party, I’ve made my Cat Boba Party Printable Invitations available in my Etsy shop]!

Pusheen Transformation Station
While we didn’t do full head-to-toe costumes for everyone, I still wanted all the guests to immediately feel transformed and immersed in the theme as soon as they arrived!

Right at our front entrance gate, I set up a “Pusheen Transformation Station” declaring: “Become Pusheen! Grab your ears!”

I sourced the cutest plush cat ear headbands from Temu for all the kids. Having a dedicated station right at the entrance was such a fun interactive detail. The kids were so excited to pop their ears on straight away, and they looked ridiculously adorable wearing them throughout the entire party!
Pusheen Party Favours
For the party favours this time around, I decided to do something extra special and completely custom! Instead of standard plastic bags, I made my own DIY Printable Pusheen Bon Bons (party crackers) tied up with pastel ribbons at each end.

I stuffed each bon bon to the brim with a collection of adorable cat and pastel-themed goodies, including:
- Cat pens & cat paw highlighters
- Cat hair scrunchies & cat paw squishies
- Mini cat notepad stickers
- Lollipops & balloons
- Custom glow-in-the-dark Pusheen stickers (which I made myself on my Cricut with Sticker Paper from Kmart!)
(The Pusheen Bon Bon template is available in my free resource library, so sign up to the monthly newsletter for the password if you’d like to make these yourself!)

Honestly, I loved how these turned out. They looked so sweet displayed together, and the kids were thrilled unpacking all their little treasures to take home.

Photo Booth & Decor Setup
For our main photo booth area, I wanted to create a bright, cozy, and pastel backdrop for all the memory-making!

I set up a soft blue fabric backdrop framed with a gorgeous sage green, gold and white balloon garland arched over the top. Across the center, I hung a custom “Happy Birthday” banner I made myself (which is also available in my free resource library).

To make it super cozy and interactive, I set out a fluffy rug and a bench, covering the entire space with Naomi’s personal Pusheen plushie collection! The star of the show was definitely the life-sized (actually, larger-than-life!) Pusheen cutout that I hand-painted onto corflute board. I used one of those sites for printing a large image over multiple A4 pages like Rasterbator to create my template which I traced around on the corflute. Floating right behind Pusheen was a giant gold foil “8” balloon alongside floating pastel helium balloons.

The kids loved sitting on the bench surrounded by plushies and posing next to giant Pusheen for photos!

Seeing Naomi’s face when everything came together was completely worth every single second of prep and crafting. From the moment the guests put on their cat ears to the activity stations and photo booth, the day was filled with so much joy and laughter.
