Today, I’m beyond excited because not only am I back with a new episode of “5 Ways to Wear It,” specially curated for breastfeeding outfits but I also get to introduce you to my adorable little boy in some cute, complementary outfits, who’s been my sidekick in this journey of motherhood and style.
You know, motherhood is an incredible adventure, but it can be all-consuming. In the whirlwind of nurturing our little ones, it’s easy to lose sight of ourselves and the things we once loved. Trust me, I’ve been there. The post-baby body changes can make us feel like we’re starting from scratch, redefining our style and wardrobe choices.
But here’s the most beautiful part – it’s a journey of rediscovery. Embracing the changes and being gentle with ourselves during this period is crucial. Our bodies have accomplished something miraculous, and that deserves all the love and care. So, as we explore these nursing-friendly outfits today, let’s remember that style is a reflection of our ever-evolving selves. It’s about celebrating who we are in this moment, both as mothers and as individuals with unique tastes and personalities.
Together, we’ll discover how fashion and motherhood can intertwine in the most magical ways, making each day a new opportunity to express ourselves and feel beautiful inside and out. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of “5 Ways to Wear Breastfeeding Outfits” with a sprinkle of baby cuteness thrown in!
Outfit 1
Are you back at the office already? Are you allowed to bring your baby to work? Maybe have a daycare nearby that you can pop down to feed every few hours or maybe this is not so much a breastfeeding look as a pumping friendly look. Even if none of the above applies to you it’s still a cute office outfit!
We’ve got the beige lace pearl button shirt for easy access but then I’d wear a white one of those breastfeeding singlets underneath for maximum coverage. I wear these in every colour with pretty much all my breastfeeding outfits as they are so comfy and easy!
I’ve paired that with my pleated knit skirt and my chunky white ankle boots. For accessories I’ve kept the earrings simple, some small gold hoops that wandering hands can’t get a hold of and a pearl hair pin to match in with the buttons on the shirt.
Over the top of all that, I’ve added my pleated trench coat to mirror back the pleats in the skirt. I know it’s a very beige look but I think it’s classy and still interesting with the unique textures and details.
Outfit 2
Being a new mom means casual breastfeeding outfits are a go-to, and I’ve got two for you this week Starting with this black and white gingham dress, it’s nursing-friendly with buttons down the front. Although I will say, they are small fiddly buttons that Bub tells me take far too long to unbutton. I’ve layered an olive green oversized jacket over it, and white sneakers complete the look.
Jewellery can be a bit of an issue when you’ve got a baby. Watches and bracelets get in the way when you’re holding Bub. Necklaces often get tugged and pulled during feeding. Earrings are a little risky too if your Bub is at the grabbing stage. But up til then I find they are the best bet for adding some flare in. The earrings I chose for this outfit are pretty safe though, my pink sphere ones. Other accessories I’ve added that shouldn’t be too much of a problem with a baby, include a knit headband which can also help keep your hair back and away from tiny, grabby hands as well as a scarf which can help with coverage if you’re out and about breastfeeding and feeling a little shy. I chose my chunky pink one that matches my earrings.
I haven’t styled a bag with majority of these looks. Whenever I go out, I end up just taking the nappy bag. This time round I opted for this convertible tan brown leather one from Hannah & Henry. It’s super cute, goes with everything, isn’t too girly so the hubby is happy to take it as well and holds everything you need.
Outfit 3
Day 3 is always edgy. I’ll get to the second casual look next but for this one, I’m rocking a unique black and brown animal print dress with easy-to-undo buttons. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the long statement sleeves and it’s a decent length! And the buttons of course! It’s definitely a unique piece. What do you think of it? Would you wear it?
I paired it with a leather jacket, black tights, and military boots for a bold base. Accessories include a black knitted beret and red geometric hoop earrings. Though I recommend hoops only for newborns as hoops are the perfect shape for getting those hands around and tugging!
I added in the cream snood because it was all sitting a little too heavy and dark for me. Variation in tone and texture is important to me in my outfits. I had intentions of adding some black frame round glasses in too but I kind of forgot about them. Whoops!
A little different to some of my previous edgy looks. I haven’t leaned into the black quite as much as I usually do. I still feel it leans a little more alternate than your regular outfit.
Outfit 4
Casual look number two features olive green cargo pants and a subtle white striped button-up top – easy access for breastfeeding! Mine is cropped but a regular length one tucked in will give you a similar look. Comfy slides in white add a touch of elegance and another earthy tone while matching back with the white from the shirt. This brown colour is repeated in the belt and the earrings. I realise this is risky at this stage but I’m doing it anyway. Some other accessories that I find are safe to use with Bub in tow are sunglasses and hair accessories. I have done this in the form of some gold layered bobby pins and a white scrunchie.
Outfit 5
A date night while breastfeeding might seem impossible but it’s a really good thing to try and prioritise even if it turns into more of a date day. I don’t know about you but once the sun goes down I’m hitting the sack immediately to try to get as much sleep as possible. So, we do date days instead of date nights at the moment. This outfit works for anytime you might want to dress up a bit though.
Wrap dresses are another clothing staple that are fantastic for nursing. I managed to find a couple during my thrifting sessions. Most have that little modesty clip that will give you all the access you need if you just undo that. I’ve gone with a light pink wrap dress with subtle black polka dot details. It’s a little colder here at present so I’ve styled it with that in mind adding some white Gucci patterned tights, white knee-high boots and a coat. Accessories are simple this time, matching white and pink hair clips, and square stud earrings. Spend a little extra time on hair and makeup, and you’re all set for your special day or night!
