Hello everyone! I’m going to be wearing outfits from Gossip Girl this week! Gossip Girl is one of my favourite shows of all time. Whenever I’m asked for a celebrity that encompasses my personal style my answer is always Blake Lively as Serena Van Der Woodsen. Her style on the show is so inspiring to me! Even though Serena is my style icon I love all the characters outfits on Gossip Girl but even though I tried to recreate some of Blair’s summer looks it was all but impossible. Her pattern mixing is unrivalled, but it made it incredibly hard to even find anything remotely similar.
In the end I picked outfits that are seasonally appropriate at the moment, ones I could recreate the easiest and ones that I liked the most and that ended up being all Serena! I’ll be doing a winter Gossip Girl outfits week as the weather gets colder where I’ll include some of Blair’s looks but for now, I hope you’ll forgive me and get on board the Serena train! Alright Let’s get into Day 1! As always, check out the video below or read on for the blog version!
Day 1:
My first Gossip Girl outfit is one I created absolutely ages ago and continued to wear on repeat. I bought a sequin skirt especially for it. It’s this casual, cool yet sparkly outfit that Serena wore. I love the mix of everyday items like the striped tee and chambray shirt mixed with something a little out of the box the sequinned mini skirt. Serena’s make-up looks pretty natural in this scene. Her hair looks like she hasn’t brushed it so I tried to do the same. Well… I didn’t brush it. I parted it on the side and then I scrunched the ends to get a bit of a wave.
This outfit which I thought was going to be the most comfortable out of all of them because it had the flats, was in fact incredibly uncomfortable. The flats because they’re relatively new, gave me really bad blisters. Even though I wore them for a very short amount of time. The sequin skirt was so uncomfortable. The sequins dug into my thighs, my butt and my stomach. It was also really short. I was continually pulling it down. The top half of the outfit was too hot for the weather at the time.
My day was mostly spent playing with Naomi but I did have a dentist’s appointment to go to. The dentist said that I looked very sparkly today. While I enjoy the look of this outfit, Serena Van Der Woodsen’s outfits, even on her casual days are not practical for everyday life.
Day 02:
Day two and I’m sticking with the sequin theme. This time in the form of a sequinned vest. This outfit is not something I would usually wear with the bold colour mixing but I love how it looks on Serena. I managed to find a similar skirt but the top was much harder to find. The colour was pretty on point but the silhouette just wasn’t there and I think it let my recreation down.
The top is see-through and the skirt is see-through and super short as well. It was as low on my hips as it could go and it barely covered my butt. Thank goodness I didn’t go out in this one. That was the reason I chose to wear this outfit on a non-work day. The skirt was so short that by mid-morning I had given up on trying to keep it down and I spent most of the day with my butt hanging out which is a really lovely visual for everyone.
Black sky high heels were the matching shoes for this outfit even though I was literally lounging around the house. I had the dance party in the shoes and then Naomi was like take them off mum. Why you got shoes on in the house? I’m like yeah true. So these came off but they were still more comfortable than the flats I wore yesterday.
Again I tried to do my hair and make-up to match Serena when she’s wearing this outfit. I kind of wave crimped my hair and did this twisty thing that she seems to have going on. It looks better on her but I do actually like this hair. Before I like wave crimped it, it looked rubbish but the waving crimping really helped.
The top and vest material didn’t breathe at all, so I was sweaty and yucky by the end of the day. It was surprising that even though I was wearing so little clothes, I still sweated so much. It wasn’t even that warm of a day. I enjoyed this look but it wasn’t practical for my day-to-day life at all.
Day 03:
I trust you’ve had enough of sequins now so I’m moving on to other things with this pink wide-legged pant ensemble. I didn’t have anything similar to her nude and black toe oxford heels though so I went with my nude pumps instead. My top is also not exactly the same as hers. Mine obviously has stripes, hers doesn’t and hers is rather showing of her bra underneath which obviously is not appropriate for my work. I tweaked it a little bit but I think the vibe was still similar.
To recreate her hair and make-up this time wasn’t that hard because her hair is just down and a little messy. I’m not sure I looked as cool as her again. These outfits sure are hard to recreate. Oh well back to work I go.
Day 04:
When you buy a sequin vest for a video, you gotta wear it as much as possible right? Well I’ve got another sequinned vest outfit for day three. This look is a little more toned down with a red maxi skirt, white singlet, nude pumps and an oversized snake print handbag.
My skirt had a big slit up the front but it seems to be in a similar material and falls more bohemian-esque. Unlike some of the other skirts I was looking at for this video. I was pretty happy with this outfit as a whole! The heels rub my toes a little but I’m using to that. I felt effortlessly stylish and cool all day long at work.
Day 05:
And for my final day of wearing Gossip Girl summer outfits I went for this floral skirt and denim vest combo. I’m warning you now, the pattern of my skirt is different and my vest is only similar in the fact that it is denim. So I didn’t have high hopes for this outfit but I think it’s ok in the end.
There is nothing like the vest that Serena wears out there anywhere. I had two denim vest options and neither of them worked well. The one I ended up wearing, I found in the kids section of a thrift store. It was a little on the small side but it was the last piece I needed to complete this video so I went with what I had to go with. I did find another denim vest option which was in fact an adult size but it was darker and it looked even worse than the kiddy one. The lighter colour looked better with the outfit. What do you think of my less than cool, naughties, twin version of Serena’s classy chic outfit?
And that’s the end of my week of dressing in Gossip Girl outfits. I’m not sure I reached an upper east side level of cool but I did get quite a few comments on how stylish my outfits were while I was wearing these. I want to know what do you guys think of my weekly challenge videos. Would you prefer if I just did a Gossip Girl look-book for the winter outfits? Let me know in the comments below what you think?
