It’s October again and my daughter, Naomi turning another year older. Last year we opted for a Shimmer and Shine Party in lieu of the ever popular and very well done Frozen birthday party. But I couldn’t put it off any longer, Frozen was what the girl wanted this year! It’s been her favourite movie for yonks! I’m sure you’ve seen it done before. But this is my take on the party which I think is a combination of the best ideas out there with my own DIY spin.
Frozen Birthday Party Invites
This year we decided to invite some of the kids from Naomi’s daycare class. To do this I needed physical copies so I could drop them into the kids pigeon holes. I printed these on 4×6 photo paper for the nicest finish while still keeping them small enough to fit in the pigeon holes and in standard size envelopes. I then also printed a frozen pattern onto both sides of some card-stock. That was used as a backing for the photo invite. They turned out great! I’ll make these available on my Etsy shop for anyone who’s interested in buying them.
Frozen Birthday Party Decorations
This year the weather was fine and our grass had been done. So we opted to have the party outside under our patio. I used a white backdrop and stand I already owned for my filming studio behind the food table. It worked great to drape some blue translucent fabric over on each side and hang the birthday banner and balloon arch from. I designed the birthday banner myself and will have it available for purchase in my Etsy store.
Frozen Birthday Party Favours
I used store-bought favour bags this time seeing as there are so many good choices out there for relatively cheap. Inside I chucked a bath bomb from Kmart, some printable paper dress up dolls along with a Frozen mini colouring in book that I made. The PDF for these are in the free resources library if you’re interested.
I also made the “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” kit that you’ve probably seen done before with marshmallows (3 regular and 2 mini size), two pretzel sticks for the arms, some edible eyes, 3 choc chip buttons and an orange mike n ike for the nose. I put them inside snack-sized ziploc bags and stapled on my own label. We had a piñata as well. The kids were encouraged to fill up the bags with the lollies from there as well. Upon entry to the party they also received either reindeer antlers, an Anna crown or an Elsa crown. Hand these out, otherwise they can get forgotten.
Hire a Princess
Naomi had mentioned to me after going to a Paw Patrol party where Rider and Marshall made an appearance to sing Happy Birthday to the birthday boy, that she wanted Elsa at her party. Of course I set out to try and make that happen. I ended up hiring a princess from Princess Parties Australia for an hour. An hour was plenty long enough in my opinion. Elsa managed to squeeze a lot in that amount of time. It was very affordable considering ($185 + $14 travel fee as we are a little out of the way).
Elsa arrived and greeted the birthday girl, did some storytelling with a book prop (she didn’t read it word for word thankfully), played Elsa’s Magical Gift Box (pass the parcel), Freeze and then Hide n Seek at the request of all the girls. She even squeezed into my daughter’s cubby house with as many girls would fit. It was quite funny to see them all streaming out not unlike clowns climbing out of a clown car. She sang happy birthday and did the cake cutting and stayed for photos with everyone before heading off. It was truly delightful to have all the kids so magically entertained and enthralled. I would definitely hire another princess again if we do another princess party in the future!
Naomi said it was the best day ever and I think all the guest greatly enjoyed themselves as well. I didn’t start planning this one quite as early as last years party, maybe only a couple months in advance. This still gave me enough time to source everything quite affordably and DIY most of the elements again. If you use any of the elements I designed for this, I’d love it if you tag me @stylewithingrace on social media. I’d love to see how your Frozen birthday party goes! Good luck!
This is just the first in a series of posts about this party because there was seriously a lot involved. Stay tuned for my posts about the themed food, drinks and cake I served as well as the crafts and games we played.
