Similar to my Christmas outfits Five Ways to Wear It, this episode of Dressed Up Dressed Down I won’t be styling one piece of clothing up and down like I usually do. Instead I’ll be showing you outfit ideas for a casual New Year’s Eve and a dressy New Year’s Eve. Watch below for the the video version or read on to see my New Year’s Eve outfits!
The Base
While my outfits are going to be different, I have kept some elements the same. I am wearing the same black fringe earrings and black velvet choker necklace for both looks. My slightly moody purple tinged makeup also works for both looks but isn’t necessary for the dress down version. The general silver and black colour theme with cream/white accents also carries through both looks. These are the colours I’m feeling for a New Year’s Eve vibe this year.
Dressed Up
For my dressed up look I’ve started with this silver mini dress with cute lace-up back and floral textural details. It’s nice and cool so that you can dance all night here in Australia. That said, if you were looking for a little more warmth, I tried out a range of options from my wardrobe. The lightest layer was my beige trench coat. The material is nice and thin and the silhouette is a very classy one but I’m not really sure of the colour for this particular outfit. Then I went to my white faux fur coat which is definitely a statement but I’m not sure it’s my favourite for this dress. Another option is a cream cardigan with gold buttons and a black hem. If you want to see what these options look like check out the video.
The final option and I think my favourite is my white linen blazer with the sleeves scrunched up. Another layer that isn’t too heavy. For shoes I’ve gone with these white stilettos with snake skin on the heels and a black cord tie-up detail. To finish off this look, I’ve paired my black glitter clutch with it to carry your keys, phone and maybe a lipstick to touch up your makeup before the clock strikes 12.
Dressed Down
Jeans and a silver singlet are a great option if you’re wanting to have more of a casual outfit for New Year’s Eve. Making an outfit more interesting is all in the details. This singlet has beautiful pearl and diamanté detailing on the collar which makes it look more polished. Even the jeans aren’t your standard pair. The paper bag waist give the look a little something extra.
To keep it casual, I’ve paired these two pieces with a basic black cross-body bag and white sneakers. My sneakers have cute little silver stars on them which I think is a nice nod to the singlet and New Year’s Eve in general but they need a good clean. White sneakers just don’t have that “WOW” factor when they have gone more of a dirty grey. This is your friendly fashion reminder… Clean your sneakers!
Feel free to merge these two looks by swapping the shoes and handbag to the dressed up version for more of a smart casual look. What New Year’s Eve outfits will you be wearing this year? Happy New Year everyone!
