Happy New Year everyone! I trust you all had a happy and healthy holiday season. This video was actually filmed last year but am only just posting it now. I hope you enjoy it though. A Dressed Up Dressed Down episode for the black blazer seemed like a good choice to start the year off. Watch below for the video version with heaps more angles and close ups of the different elements of my outfits! Or read on if you prefer the blog version…
The Base
I know y’all excited for me to move away from body-con dresses right! Me too! We are going back to the classics this episode of Dressed Up Dressed Down with the ever popular, ever sophisticated, ever versatile… black blazer. This is a piece that I really think everyone should own in one way or another. If you work in an office, it’s an obvious essential. But even if you’re more of a low-key chic, it’s an awesome piece to add sophistication to a casual outfit as well. You can also totally edge it up if so desired. Whatever your vibe, I’m confident you can find a black blazer out there to compliment your style. Let me show you how I’d style this shape-shifting style piece into a dressy look and a day to day fit.
Dressed Up
The most obvious way to dress up a blazer is to go for a more work appropriate office fit. But I decided to go in another direction. Classy black blazer, say hello to sexy lace bodysuit! This isn’t dressed up to go to the office instead it’s dressed up for a date night! Paired with these leather look skinny jeans and strappy heels, I could see myself wearing this out to a bar in cooler weather. Keeping the whole look monochromatic gives you legs for days! Gold accessories always read classier, sexier and bolder all at the same time for me. So I’ve finished the look off with a chunky gold chain necklace and black and gold circle earrings. Chuck in a matching clutch and I don’t know about you but I’m ready to go party!
Dressed Down
For my casual look, you can’t go past the good ole jeans, tee and sneakers combo with the black blazer over top, sleeves scrunched up, all that goodness! Any kind of jeans will do for this but I’m wearing my mom jeans. I like the juxtaposition of the distressed denim and the sleek blazer. Any kind of tee will do for this as well, but I went with my basic white one for maximum contrast.
Feel free to switch up the sneakers for something colourful but I went for my white ones with a slight tan brown detail on the back. Working in with the warmth from that small detail, I decided on more warm tones in the form of a layered gold necklace and these leopard print stud earrings. And for a pop of colour, I finished the look off with this mustard yellow cross-body bag. The yellow from the bag ties in well with the gold jewellery too! This is a great running chores outfit in my opinion or even a catching up with other mums for play-dates look.
